24/7 HVAC Service
If you’ve been living North Carolina for a few years, you know how harsh the summertime can be. You would also know that the summer heat isn’t only here during the summer. It lingers on through early fall. At Foothills Heating & Air, we want everyone to feel as comfortable and cool in their home as possible this summer. We’ve put together a few of our favorite tips on how to stay cool this summer.
Use Your Fans
Your ceiling fans can have a huge impact on the comfort level in your home this summer. They cannot actually lower the temperature in your home but they do cause a cooling effect. Because the fans push around the cold air already inside of your home from your hardworking air conditioner, your fans help to better circulate the air in your home. Be sure your ceiling fans are rotating counter clockwise during the summer months because this helps to pull the warmer air up towards the ceiling. If you do not have any ceiling fans, floor fans can have just as much of an affect on your homes comfort.
Check Your Insulation
Your insulation is what keeps the air inside of your home inside and helps keep the outside air out. If you have any leaks or damages to your insulation, your home will feel the consequences. Be sure to seal all of your windows tightly and securely to make sure that the hot air cannot come through any cracks. If it looks like a bigger job than you can handle on your own, call your trusted HVAC contractor to come out and help you with your insulation. The same goes for your door – most door sweeps can keep the hot air from entering your home but if not, call your contractor for the best help.
Cook Outside
This might seem like an odd tip to you, but trust us on it. Summertime is not only famous for grilling outside because they weather us nice, it’s also a way to keep your house cooler. Think about all of the heat that escapes when you open your oven while it’s in use. Because of the heat, do your best to cook outside as much as you can and avoid using your oven, especially during the daytime. Crockpots, air fryers, and even some light use of your stove are great ways to cut down on added heat.
Block Sunlight
Blocking direct sunlight from entering your home is one of the easiest ways to keep the heat out of your home this summer. The sun can cause a greenhouse effect, warming everything up when directly shining through your windows. To avoid this, make sure you are closing your blinds, especially during the day. Even if you enjoy natural sunlight, try closing your blinds in one room of your house or at least partially closing your blinds. You will still feel cooler with half of your blinds closed than with none.
